This is a website that allows you to adopt a word that is in danger of becoming extinct – in other words, it is being taken out of the dictionary.
I adopted the word hirquitalliency, promising to use it in everyday conversation and correspondence. You may hear me using it next week at school.
Let’s all try to adopt a word. The website is funny because the words call out to you, “Pick me, pick me” when you point to them.
Here is the website address: http://savethewords.org/
Just a pointer…write down the meaning so you don’t forget it.
I adopted blateration and Jobler.
I adopted a really cool word that I LOVE!!
When I first read the title of the post, I thought to myself “Huh, I wonder what this blog post could be about?”
After I read the website I think it’s a really awesome/fun idea.
I couldn’t help but adopt THREE WORDS!
Omniregency – State of complete authority
Boreism – Behavior of a boring person
Jobler – One who does small jobs
I am going to enjoy these words…tehee
I’m sooo happy. Now the words won’t be lonely anymore. I challenge everyone to try using their words in class or in a blog or journal entry.
I adopted “lubency” meaning willingness or pleasure.
I am very proud of myself i adopted …
Lardlet- A small peice of bacon used to enrich meat
and
Canitude- greyness; hoariness; whiteness
I was bored so i adopted another…
Odynometer- Instrument used to measure pain
No wonder these words aren’t being used anymore…they sound really weird. Ha ha! Anyways, I adopted 3 because I thought they sounded cool!
Starrify – To decorate with stars
Pamphagous – Eating or consuming everything
Riviation – Fishing
Those are my words! I’ll try my best to use them!
When I went on this website, it was really over-whelming, and I couldn’t choose one word. I went really overboard and adopted five, and had to get off before I adopted more.
Cloakatively- superficially
Primifluous- that which flows first
Slimikin- small or slender
I really couldn’t help but adopt this one, it made me laugh so hard when I read the definition…
Krioboly-the sacrifice of many rams
And my personal favorite…
Frutescent- having or approching the habit or apperence of a shrub
I went back on the website, just to look at them, but ended up adopting three more.
Misqueme-to displease
Xenization-fact of travelling as a stranger
and…
EPALPEBRATE! which means lacking eyebrows
Wow, those are hilarious. I can see how enticing it would be to adopt a number of words. Now, let’s see if you can use some of them in class. I challenge everyone who has adopted words to find some way to use them.
I was wondering…Are they even real words? Or did someone just make up this website for fun and make up the words, too? Some of them don’t sound like real words, haha.
But, hey, you never know.
