What novels do you recommend as choices for our trailer project? Let’s discuss some titles here before the actual voting starts.
Listed below are the titles from class so far. Feel free to add to the list. I have made some suggestions too.
The Hunger Games
Safe as Houses
The Uglies
The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
You Can Run
Point Blank
Sketches
Crackback
Gemini Summer
Peak
What are we meant to do on this post? Do we reccomend more books or should we choose the book we want to do, and explain why?
The Uglies would be a really good movie trailer because there is alot of adventure and excitment. It is a really fast-paced book with lots of un-expected twists. There would be some hard to dramatize parts, like the pretties, who are suppost so beautifull you can’t imagine, or hoverboarding, which is basically skateboarding in the air.
The right scenes though could really make a good trailer and would be exciting. The pretties could just be a photoshoped picture, and the rest could be easilly dramatized. The book takes place in the U.S. in the future, thousands of years from now, after the “rusties” us. The future is much improved from now, no gas, no war, no metal. But there is a reason there are no wars. A reason that changes the way you think. A reason so threatning and scary that no one in the right mind would want to be pretty for. The specials, an evil version of the pretties will do anything to keep this secret from reaching the public. Even if it means killing multiple people or starting a full-scale war. The pretties are being kept in a little world with their warped brains. They don’t know what is happening, or what is so wrong and twisted with them. They shouldn’t be kept from knowing themselves, and Tally and Shay will do any thing to let them know that.
“You Can Run” would be a great book to make a movie out of, I think. It is a mystery book, with twists and turns aroung a very fast-paced road. There are a lot of different types of people, from outlandish girls, to quiet standoffish boys. The interesting thing is that it features real-life events. Everyone will go through the awkwardness of being a teenager in high school, which is what the book partly describes. Also, there is a mysterious run away that the main character, Robyn, must find. It may not be very common in our area, but it could very well happen. In this book, there isn’t any hard shots to film because it is in a city (not sure which one!) and all we need is a street and a house. So yes, the setting is not a difficult thing to shoot. Other than that, the theme is easy to dramatize, because all we have to do is be mysterious!
I think the Hunger Games would be an amazing movie! It has a couple of different genres in it, romance, action. It is a very creative book that must’ve taken a while to think up and it wouldn’t be all that hard to dramarize. We could easily make a bow and arrow out of card board and pretend to go around shooting people with them.
And we all have ketchup, I’m sure.
It would be a lot of fun to film, I think! I think maybe one of the main things that would be hard to do is what the characters look like. The author describes them with a lot of detail, but I guess that isn’t our main priority since mainly movies are about the plot. Also, the arena takes place in what is described as “An arena that could fit five cities” and it is a forest. We have a sort of forest thing at the school that we could film it at and it would not be that hard at all, I don’t think.
I also agree with rfinch95, I think Hunger Games would make an extraordinary movie trailer. It is based in the future but nothing much is different or hard to create. A lot of people would love working on this project because it has a great story line with action packed thrillers some heart wrenching moments and seat edging suspense that everyone will enjoy reading and producing!
Sketches would be an awesome movie trailer! Many people would have no problems acting out these scenes. Firstly, the characters are not much older then us.
I’m pretty sure that the main character is 14! There are a few kids in our class who are 14 so this would be great for them! Also, the setting is basically on the streets so many of us could film it outside of our house. Many teens could relate to this situation in the book because it is so realistic and has most likely happened to many teens who live in the city. The main aspect of this book that would make this amazing to be a movie trailer, is that there is a secret throught the book that keeps you wanting to read more. I thought it may be interesting to add into the trailer a hint about the secret. (By the way, the secret is why the main charatcer ran away in the first place.) This book is thrilling and it is really interesting to see how three teens survive in the streets.
Lastly, Safe As Houses would be quite hard to do because it is based on a flood, although it is a really great book and I would recommend people read it!
I like the book “you can run”. Anyway I never read the book but from the book talk about it, it looks like a great book to film and i think it would be easy to. Also it sounds like a book that a lot of people would read for the plot and the genre.
I definitely think that the Hunger Games would be an amazing movie, as well as a great trailer. It basically has tons of action, a lot of it very doable. It is a book that would appeal to both genders, with a variety of genres. It would be very fun to do- for example. there are a lot of dying people, and I know that many people in our grade are very dramatic and would be good at it. There is also a part in the book where Katniss, the main character, wakes up to a forest fire, and fire balls being nailed at her. Some of you may remember, in my Superhero presentation, I edited my video so that rfinch95 was on fire, so it would be pretty easy to do that too for this trailer.
I’m sure that many of the class has heard at least one of the Booktalks (with three people doing it on the same book), so we are hoping that The Hunger Games will be strongly considered, as we are all pretty passionate about it
. While reading this book, I could see it going through my head as a movie, which does not frequently occur for me. Having already read 8 out of the 10 books up there, I think that this book fits a majority of the criteria for a trailer.
One thing I was thinking, I’m not sure that having a sequel or a book from the middle of a series is a good idea to read, because a lot of the time, it is kind of awkward jumping into an adventure mid way through. Just a thought, ’cause I know that if I hadn’t read them already, I wouldn’t really like to do that at all.
Anyways, my first and definite recommendation goes with The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. Also, since I own a copy, anyone is welcome to borrow it
I was thinking that ” The Diary of a Wimpy Kid” would make an awesome choice to do a movie trailer for. First of all everything is like in real life so it wouldnt be hard to film. It is funny, stupid (the good kind of stupid) and relates to most of us in some odd way. Lastly its really short so we could read it quickly and get right to working on the trailer.
Well first of all, I don’t see Hamish X and the Cheese Pirates on that list, but I guess if I had to pick one it would be Point Blank. Point Blank would make a great action/adventure movie for all ages 13 and older. It would appeal to a vast audience, boys girls, she-males, the works.
I think that You Can Run would be awsome for this assignment. Just the fact that the story is really good. There are two mysteries that join into one in a really unique way. And also the characeters are really strong and relatable. They are all going through things that everyone goes through and situations that could easily happen to anyone. Kids our age would find the story line appealing and also older or younger people too.
And not to mention it would be no problem to act out. The setting is easy and the characters are human.
We can definitely add Hamish X and the Cheese Pirates and Diary of a Wimpy Kid to the list.
Safe as Houses would make an awesome movie trailor! It has a very exciting plot and portrays a real event. This would appeal to several audiences. Because it is action-packed and shows a lot of adventure, the trailor would be flashy and exciting. Many people think this would be hard to film, but really it wouldn’t be that difficult because the clips are so quick. There are also several different ways to film something like this.
Saving Zoe would be a good book to do because there were many different emotions in it. I found it easy to put my self in the main characters shoes because the author use many describing words which made it easier to imagine.
Saving Zoe was interesting because Echo (The main character) was Zoe’s sister and it was constantly making me wonder what had happened for Zoe to die.
It was also a good book because it was mostly written in a diary from Zoe’s point of view which made it fun to read.
I forgot to mention that Safe as Houses is based on a flood that took place close to Toronto in the fifties. A babysitter named Lizzie is left in charge of keeping two kids and their dog safe while this major flood is happening! Join Lizzie in her struggles to keep everyone alive!
Tanks Northlake 2, I would appreciate if you added Hamish X to the list. It inspired me to do better things with my life, but not enough.
I think a good book to make into a movie is The People Of Sparks by Jeanne Duprau. It would be a good book to make into a movie because it is the sequel to The City Of Ember so it already has a fan base of people who will want to see the second book in the series. In The People Of Sparks, has mystery because the people from Ember do not know anything about there new home and so they are trying to figure some things out. Also there re real life problems like exclusion, violence and discrimination, that would be easy to film because they happen every day in every ones life.
Thank you Northlake 2 for adding The Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It inspired me to be less wimpy. As if thats possible!!!!!!!!!

I think Bras and Broomsticks would make a good trailer.I think it would make a good trailer because it has a good story line. It is about 2 sisters who are about to get a knew step mom or as they call her there “STB”. Mira the younger of the 2 sisters has witch powers. With Mires power’s and Rachel’s assitance they make there almost knew stem mom have zits and make her have a different personality. Rachel also uses her sisters powers to make her a good dancer and have clear skin.
The magic in this book would not be to heard to show because the spells do not work instantly, they happen over night. Bras and Broomsticks would make a really great trailer.
Lotta 13, hey, you’re blog was very insightful and close to home. Anyways, I would also choose the diary of a wimpy kid as a third and final choice. Jeff Kinney adds humour along with pictures that help you furtherly understand his the complexity of his writing.
Thank you Northlake 2 for adding The Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It inspired me to be less wimpy. As if thats possible!!!!!!!!!
I would recommend “The Hunger Games” By: Suzanne Collins because as Victory95 said, it has a ton of action that would appeal to the boys and girls. It has a lot of genres. It would be fun to make. So I agree “The Hunger Games” By: Suzanne Collins would be an excellent book to make as a trailer.
