Zopa was introduced to us last week in our reading. He is certainly a mysterious character. What do you think of him so far? How will he be incorporated into this story?
There is not a lot to say about Zopa. However, he sounds like a pretty interesting character. In my opinion, Zopa is very mysterious, wise, and smart. As they said in the book, “you never really know what he is thinking or planning”. I think he is a good character and in the future, he will bring up some really interesting parts to the book.
Zopa kind of creeps me out. He’s the strong silent type and most characters that have the same type of personalitys end up being the “bad guys”.
Although, he has a strong protecting persona about him.
I think that something will happen to Josh and Zopa will have to take care of Peak.
Chao, giraffegirl1
I think you have a very good prediction for Peak’s future. What do you think will happen to Josh?
As gialloconiglio3 said I also think he will add some mystery to the story. You never really know what he is thinking. In the future I think he will surprise us in something that he says or does because to me he is that kind of person who will go along with things and then BAM! He will do something you never would have expected. I can’t wait till we read more and find out the other cool things he will do next. I like him so far because I think he makes the story more interesting. Do my fellow bloggers have any predictions on what odd thing Zopa will do next?
Hey giraffegirl I kinda think that Zopa is kind of creepy too and that is a good prediction. I didn’t think about it that way. His personality is mysterious and it is the kind you would think is bad.
Oh ya! He’s super creepy! But it would really bug me not knowing why Zopa does things. It would drive me nuts!!!
Although I have to say that he sounds very wise. I would not trust him completely but I’d try if my dad said I should.
I’m still debating with myself whether or not he’s a good person in the story but I do think that he will add somethibg different to this story, although I am not quite sure what it is yet.
I really hope that we get to hear some of Zopa’s reasons and explanations about his reasons for doing the things that he is doing, such as climbing Mount Everest and staying at Base Camp for a few days.
I do feel bad for Peak because Zopa is taking up the mountain and he’s so quiet and mysterious. I would feel insecure and kind of ackward. But t least Peak has Sunjo to climb with. It really seems like they’re becoming friends. So that is good. I can’t wait to hear more about their climbing adventure.
Zopa really bugs me! I don’t like his attitude about things. I didn’t like how he traded all of Peak’s brad new stuff for old beat up stuff. I don’t like how he treats Peak. I just don’t really like him in general. I guess I’ll see how much I like him later on. Who knows, he might change.
Hey Poneylover, I agree with you. He seems to be very hard on Peak. I think he should ease up on him a lot more
Zopa is a very mysterious character. He never says much either. Zopa has a strange way of doing things. He also is very strict and has a really bad attitude about things. Zopa treats Peak badly. He makes him do things his special way. I don’t know why he does this, but I hope to find out why he does soon. Can’t wait to read more!
I have never thought about Zopa being smart and wise. To me, his silent and mysterious ways lead me to think that he’s planning something bad. Still, you never know. When we first started reading this book, I thought “Man, do we have to get through this book?”, but now the book is getting more and more exciting, and I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of it.
I think Zopa is very mysterious. I found it very odd how he arrived back at the hotel before Peak. I think he will do more spooky stuff like that as the story continues. I also think he will be a very important character as the story progresses. I have a feeling something bad will happen to him, Peak or Josh. I can’t wait to hear more about Peak and his journey up Mount Everest.
I agree with buttersxo. He is very mysterious and I also believe he will be very important to the story as it progresses.
On Tuesday, we have a very special presentation by Chris Hubberstey who was in Nepal last year with his daughter. They climbed a mountain beside Everest and went up to 5, 500 metres. He is going to talk to us and show some slides of their trip. I think you will all find it very interesting. We will hear him from 8:30 to 9:30 in the library. It will be a fun way to spend the first morning after Thanksgiving!
Can’t wait!
Thanks for reminding me northlake2. It sounds pretty interesting, and i can’t wait to hear what it was like!
What do you think is Zopa’s relationship to Sunjo? Why is he helping him? Think about some of the background facts we have learned in the story.
I think that Zopa might be helping Sunjo for a couple of reasons. One might be that he simply needs to return a favour. Or he might be using him to achieve his own hidden goals. Well, whatever the reason I can say one thing about Zopa. He seems to be a selfish lowlife that would stab his best friend in the back if it was profitable for him. He will definitely be an interesting character as the story will progress and I believe his loyalties to Peak will be tested at one point in the story.
(By the way, can’t wait for Chris) BYE!!!!!!
I think that Peak’s dad using him is kinda mean but then again it allowed him to get out of jail and he does love to climb so I guess that it is okay. In the book his dad said that if he was 15 he wouldn’t have saved him. I think that it does make it a little bit weird so I guess I’m kinda on the fence for this one. I mean, you can argue both ways. A little about Zopa. I think that he is a little bit creepy. He wanted to meet at the temple but then showed up at the hotel after, CREEPY. Also when they were on the mountain and then the other guy came over and they just disappeared.
Bye the way terminator100, I totally agree. I agree even when my friends won’t tell me something even just for a minute – it drives me nuts. I hope at the end of the story they tell us why he did the things he did, although it’s probably not likely. Hey northlake2, I can’t wait to hear and see the presentation. I think getting up that high and being able to tell others about it and say you made to the top or even just up 5 500 meters would be awesome. I’m so excited.
Excited to see Chris on Tuesday!!!
I certainly think that Zopa is very mysterious but I would trust him anyway beacause he is a monk and because if my dad told me to trust Zopa or someone like Zopa I would be caustious at first but it would not take long to grow his trust. I think that Zopa will be incorperated by being the one who will make it posssible for Peak to get to the top
I think that Zopa is going to train Peak. So that he has the skills and the knowladge for climbing Mt. Everst. Also I think he is kind of strange and very mysterious person.
Oh i agree lauren42 Josh is using Peak. Peak ia fifteen yeas old and there is Josh using Prak for his own career. If i was Peak i woulb so mad at Josh. I thinkg that a dad should not do that to his own kid. Maybe Peak does not mind going to clim Mount Evrest, he propably can’t wait to to climb it.
Zopa is a persion that who have to allway take what Zopa says.
I beleive that Zopa is just helping out Sunjo, to get him to the top of Mt.Everest. Another option is that Zopa wants to be the person to get the youngest kid to the summit. Zopa is very mysterious, and could be thinking anything. No one knows what he is really thinking, and that makes him very interesting.
Hey everyone….do you think Zopa knowing Holly would stay and try to reach the top and the weather cool or creepy or ??? Why?
That was a really good prediction gialloconiglio3 I didn’t think about it that way.
Are we going to get a new topic this week, those of us who actually post/comment
Has the blog started counting yet, because there are people who haven’t done anything, or followed through every week. Just curious!
calcio33.
I am keeping track of all the entries and comments and at the end of the term, I will pass out evaluations. If you have not commented or replied to anyone, this will show in your mark.
So far, I am looking at this as formative practice. We will be talking soon about the features of a good blog entry. I will then post specific questions to be evaluated for the report card.
I don’t see Zopa as a bad person. In the begining it seemed that way, but I think he is very smart. If he wanted to jeapordize, or hurt anyones chances of climbing, he wouldn’t have helped Josh the way he did. I also think the fact that he was head sherpa shows that he is very responsible, I think if he was a “hidden agenda” kind of guy, he may have not been so sucessful, and helped so many people as we were told.
calcio33
I agree with you there, calcio33. I thought that Zopa was planning something bad, but he’s just so mysterious that it’s very hard to know what his aim is here. He certainly is fairly smart(or what some people consider now to be pyschic) and helpful at the moment though.
I think of Zora as a man that has alot of exsperence in his past life. I dno’t think of him as a back person, if he way a bad person then he would hurt some ones chance for climbing Mont Evrest. I know he is a good person becaues he helped Peak get all his stuff ready to go climbing.
Oh sorry i for got to put this (I agree with you calcio33). sorrry about that.
